Stress Management for the Exam Period

Stress is a common part of the exam period, yet it is often misunderstood and poorly managed by students. This session helps students understand what stress is, the difference between acute and chronic stress, and how it affects the body, brain, and performance. Students learn how unmanaged stress impacts focus, memory, and emotional control, and how better management of stress supports clearer thinking and more effective exam performance. By understanding the “why” behind stress, students are better able to engage with strategies such as sleep, movement, and recovery, and apply them more effectively.

Movement and Exercise Education

Students are more sedentary than ever, spending long periods sitting in lessons, studying, and using screens, despite being told to move more. This session helps students understand how movement and exercise directly impact the brain, including focus, memory, mood, and stress regulation. Students are introduced to how different types of movement can be used to support energy, emotional state, and performance throughout the school day. By understanding the role of movement, students are better able to use it as a practical tool to support learning, wellbeing, and exam performance.

Mindfulness for the Modern World

Mindfulness and meditation are widely discussed, yet many students do not know how to use them effectively. This session introduces meditation as a practical skill, helping students understand that different approaches serve different purposes depending on what they need. Students are guided through simple concentration and awareness-based techniques, and learn how these can support focus, attention, and emotional regulation. By developing a basic mindfulness practice, students gain a tool they can use both in school and beyond to manage their thoughts, improve concentration, and support long-term wellbeing.

Smartphones, Dopamine, and Focus

Smartphones are a constant presence in students’ lives, yet their impact on focus and attention is often underestimated. This session helps students understand how smartphone use, particularly social media, influences the brain, including the role of dopamine in habit formation and attention. Students explore how frequent interruptions and digital stimulation reduce concentration, increase distraction, and affect wellbeing. Practical strategies are introduced to help students manage phone use more effectively, supporting sustained focus, better learning, and improved control over attention both in and out of school.

The Value of Sleep

Many students are not getting enough sleep to support their physical health, learning, and emotional wellbeing. This session helps students understand how sleep works, including the structure of sleep cycles and the role of REM and non-REM sleep in recovery, memory, and mood. Students learn how a lack of sleep impacts focus, behaviour, and decision-making, and how modern distractions such as smartphones can disrupt sleep quality. By understanding the value of sleep, students are better able to prioritise it as a key driver of wellbeing and exam performance.

Gratitude and Appreciation

Students are constantly exposed to negative information through social media, news, and comparison, which can shape how they see themselves and the world around them. This session introduces the science of gratitude and appreciation, helping students understand how attention and perception influence emotional wellbeing. Students are given simple, practical ways to build gratitude into daily life, developing it as a skill rather than a concept. By learning to direct their attention more intentionally, students can improve mood, perspective, and resilience, contributing to a more positive individual and school environment.
